Group program

Skills group

For adults who want practical skills for strong feelings, stress and hard conversations, and who would rather learn them next to other people.

  • Day and time

Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., for eight weeks. Start dates are on the home page.

  • Who leads it

Jarrett Bethune and Aliyah Briscoe, in person in Greensboro.

  • Who sits with you

Six to eight adults, and the same people every week.

Adults seated in a circle of chairs in a large room with soft light, listening to one another

Sessions

What an evening looks like

  • 01

    Check in

Each evening opens with a short check-in. You can say a sentence or pass.

  • 02

    One skill

A clinician teaches one skill in plain words and gives you a handout to keep.

  • 03

    Practice

We practice it in pairs and as a group, then talk about where you might use it that week.

How we work

The method

The skills come from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT): mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness, taught from Marsha Linehan's skills training manual. This is a skills group, not the full DBT program, which also includes individual therapy and phone coaching.

Plainly

What this is not

  • Not a place where you must share

You choose what to say, and passing is always fine.

  • Not a crisis service

If you are in crisis, call or text 988. A group cannot respond between evenings.

  • Not the full DBT program

It teaches the skills. It does not replace individual therapy where that is what a person needs.

Time and money

How long, how often, and how it is paid

  • Length and frequency

Eight weekly evenings. After that, you and your clinician decide whether to join another cycle, begin individual sessions, or stop. We do not promise a number of sessions beyond the eight.

  • How it is paid

Insurance, paying yourself and reduced-fee spots are explained on one page. Your fee is given in writing before you start.

Questions

Three questions about this program

Do I have to speak?

No. You take part as much as you like, and you can pass at any point.

What if I miss a week?

Tell us before the evening. We send the handout, and your seat is held.

Can I do both a group and one-to-one sessions?

Yes. You can do both, with the same clinician or a different one.

Ready to start with intake?

Intake is a 50-minute first visit with one clinician. You choose a first step together.
