Group program

Process group

For adults who want to understand how they connect with other people, by talking and listening in a circle that meets every week.

  • Day and time

    Wednesdays, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., all year.

  • Who leads it

Juanita Aguirre and Vernita Exum, in person in Greensboro.

  • Who sits with you

Eight to ten adults. New members join at the start of each month.

Sessions

What an evening looks like

  • 01

    Check in

We start with a round of one or two sentences, from anyone who wants to speak.

  • 02

    The circle

There is no lesson. Members bring what is on their minds, and the clinicians help the group notice how people respond to one another.

  • 03

    Closing

We stop on time, with a minute for each person to say what they are taking with them.

How we work

The method

This is an interpersonal process group. The room becomes a small place to practice honest, kind conversation, and the clinicians help the group notice what happens between people. The approach follows Irvin Yalom's The Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy.

Plainly

What this is not

  • Not a class

There is no curriculum and no homework.

  • Not advice from the group

Members listen and respond. The clinicians keep the room from turning into a round of advice.

  • Not a crisis service

If you are in crisis, call or text 988. A group cannot respond between evenings.

Time and money

How long, how often, and how it is paid

  • Length and frequency

Weekly and open-ended. After your first month, you and your clinician check in about whether the group still fits.

  • How it is paid

Insurance, paying yourself and reduced-fee spots are explained on one page. Your fee is given in writing before you start.

Questions

Three questions about this program

What if I know someone in the group?

Tell us at intake. We will talk through the options, including a different group.

How do new members join?

New members start together at the beginning of a month, after an intake visit. The home page lists the dates.

Who decides what stays private?

Every member agrees to keep what is said in the room. We cannot promise that for other members, and we say so before you join.

Ready to start with intake?

Intake is a 50-minute first visit with one clinician. You choose a first step together.
